Meet George: A Handsome Boy With A Rocky Beginning

Meet George: A Handsome Boy With A Rocky Beginning

George is a special boy, not necessarily due to any birth defects or genetic health issues, but he was attacked by another animal (his parents suspect a spooky werewolf). Despite the fact that he has endured some challenges in his life, George is still booming with personality. I had the privilege of speaking with his mom, Kaitlin!

Before Adoption

Before he was rescued, George was a homeless kitten and attacked by an animal. No one is exactly sure what injured him, but judging from the damage, it is assumed that it was a large animal. A couple rescued him, nursed him back to health and then had a local rescue assume the rest of his care. Unfortunately, he bounced around from rescue to rescue before ending up at a local shelter, Griffin Pond.  They are the only county shelter in that area, and unfortunately have a poor track record of keeping animals alive (neglect, poor administration, euthanasia, etc.)

“I wasn’t even looking for a cat!!  The second I saw his face I knew he was mine, despite whatever complications he came with. Fortunately, he’s healthy!” Kaitlin told us.

A Fresh New Life

Luckily, George was saved. Now, George rules the house. Kaitlin tells us, “One of the amazing things about George is that even his aggression is sweet! He may hiss, swat or try to bite an ear but it’s always so gentle. It’s more of a ‘hey dude, dis is mine’ warning.”

When George takes time off from being the leader of the house, and resident gentle hisser, just like our other stars of this series, is quite the Instagram star. His cute little face has amassed around 60 thousand followers! He even took time off of his busy schedule to make an appearance at the Philadelphia-based charity event, Kittydelphia!

Kaitlin’s Advice

George’s human, Kaitlin urges readers to always choose adoption. Adopt an animal from a shelter. Fostering saves lives, it creates more room in shelters for more animals needing help. You don’t have to do feel like you need to do everything to make a difference, you just need to do one thing!”

Overcoming Obstacles

When considering adoption, it is important to understand that you must adopt what you know you are capable of taking care of. In other words, eager adopters must understand that they are solely responsible for the well-being of the kitty they choose, so it is important to be able to give them the best care they can.

For example, Kaitlin tells us, “I’m able to give 6 less adoptable cats an amazing home. These 6 wonderful personalities who almost didn’t have a chance because of things like their fur color, heart murmur or an extra handsome face *ahem, George*.”

George’s Future

George was brought into an amazing home with amazing humans and fur-siblings. Many adopters are nervous to take on a special needs kitty, but we urge you to give them a chance. When we asked Kaitlin what the most rewarding part of being George’s human is, she said this:

“Oh gosh, just having him in my life! He makes me smile every day and we are so honored to share that with the world through our Instagram page.  A smile can change a life, as cliché as that sounds. I struggle with severe anxiety and being able to smile or laugh for a second can take you out of that spin cycle, which can really change your day. “
