Litter Box Showdown: Traditional Box vs. CatGenie

If you’re fed up with buying tons and tons of litter each year and scooping disgusting pans full of cat poop and pee, we hear ya. I mean, who wouldn’t be? But there’s so many different options on the market and they are all so different. So what’s a fur parent to do? Do your homework and choose exactly the solution that works best for your household. One size does not fit all.

If you’re reading this, you’ve come across the CatGenie in your research and you may be asking yourself – what’s the difference between a regular old litter box and a CatGenie? Well the short answer is – everything! But let’s do a deeper dive to discover what all those differences mean for you, your cat and even the environment.

Litter Pan vs. The CatGenie Unit and Bowl

Litter box

Litter pans have gotta be the worst smelling thing in any cat household. Your kitty fills it up and it sits there until you have to deal with it. With a regular old litter box, there’s no getting around it: you do ALL the cleaning manually. Scooping the piles of poop and clumps of urine, filling the pan up with more litter, taking the bag of waste out to the trash. Rinse and repeat, daily.

Now take CatGenie. CatGenie isn’t just a cat box, it’s actually more like an appliance. CatGenie is powered with electricity, water, artificial intelligence and mechanics to Scoop, Flush, Wash and Dry itself after each time your cat uses it! Don’t worry- each component is designed and tested to ensure safety for pets and people.

CatGenie is triggered to operate by your cat’s presence, meaning after they go to the bathroom, CatGenie knows to start cleaning with no prompting from you. It has an automated scooping hand that comes down into the bowl to scoop away solids into a hopper where they are liquified. Gnarly stuff but hey, it works! The bowl is then filled with water and a SaniSolution (which is actually made from the same stuff vet’s use to clean down their operating tables) washing and cleaning the Granules free of urine and germs! Once drained, the Granules are blown dry and warmed so the CatGenie is ready for your kitty’s next visit. Only the best for your furry royalty.

Litter vs. Washable Granules – Contents and Packaging

Strip mining site.

The standard in cat care and culture? Dusty, clay litter. There are two types of this traditional litter: calcium montmorillonite, which is an absorbent clay and sodium bentonite, which is clumping. Clay litter is extremely harmful to the environment. For your cat to use clay cat litter, clay is strip-mined from the Earth, leaving a path of ecological destruction in its wake that is hard for nature to reclaim. According to Sites at Penn State these are all the ways strip-mining destroys the environment:

  • Strip mining destroys landscapes, forests and wildlife habitats at the site of the mine when trees, plants, and topsoil are cleared from the mining area. This in turn leads to soil erosion and destruction of agricultural land.
  • When rain washes the loosened top soil into streams, sediments pollute waterways. This can hurt fish and smother plant life downstream, and cause disfiguration of river channels and streams, which leads to flooding.
  • There is an increased risk of chemical contamination of groundwater when minerals in upturned earth seep into the water table, and watersheds are destroyed when disfigured land loses the water it once held.
  • Strip mining causes dust and noise pollution when topsoil is disrupted with heavy machinery and coal dust is created in mines.

All of that for your cat to pee and poop in it and then for it all to get thrown in a landfill . . .

Not to mention crystalized cat litter. This type is made from silica, which is carcinogenic. According to OSHA, inhaling silica dust leaves you at a higher risk of

  • Silicosis, an incurable lung disease that can lead to disability and death;
  • Lung cancer;
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); and
  • Kidney disease

CatGenie Washable Granules and SaniSolution.

  With CatGenie, this wasteful and potentially harmful life can be over. CatGenie uses Washable, Reusable Granules instead of cat litter. They are designed to mimic the look and feel of cat litter so they satisfy a cat’s need for digging. The best part? THEY NEVER NEED CHANGED! Some may go down the drain (they’re septic and sewer safe, by the way) or get tracked out (kitties can’t always help it!) but if a CatGenie’s bowl is looking a little low, all you gotta do is fill Granules back up to the fill line. And that’s it!

Now how is that possible?

Throwing Out vs. Flushing Away

CatGenie connected to toilet.

Not only is clay litter harmful for the environment, it’s just plain gross. A cat litter box is basically just an open sewage system in your home filled with cat feces, cat pee and germs. That’s not something you want near your cats and family. Instead of throwing all that out into a landfill, just let the CatGenie flush it away every day! With the help of Washable Granules, waste can be eliminated in this way all the while giving your cat the experience they want when going to the bathroom. Washable Granules are made of a dust-free, pet-safe, non-toxic combination of natural and synthetic biodegradable materials that break down naturally in Septic and sewer Systems. Better yet, the Washable Granules will not break down into micro plastics. They are composed of plastic, natural organic material and a special additive that will allow the plastic to be broken down by bacteria. The materials have been tested by hundreds of cats to ensure they are safe and nontoxic, as well as approved by vets. Possibly the best part? Granules will biodegrade in the septic, sewer system or landfill. Wins all around!

Tracking Around the House

Cat kicking litter out of litter box.

Back in the day, when I would be cuddling with my cats in bed, I would sometimes have a gross thought. Their paws would be on me or my pillow and I would think about how they went to the bathroom in their litter box then walked all over my house. I knew even if I couldn’t see it, the trackage from the litter box was there and all over their paws. And worse, that litter would grind down to a dust I couldn’t really see to clean up. Now, I never have that thought with CatGenie. When you find a CatGenie Granule outside of the CatGenie, you can rest assured knowing it is clean and sanitary. Heck, you can even throw it right back in the bowl so it can be used again. Eliminating waste in more ways than one!

Cost Breakdown

For most cat families, litter is a costly factor in their monthly budget. Premium clumping litters can be close to $15-$20 per bucket and those buckets don’t last long, especially if you have more than one cat. There are also scoopers and the boxes/pans themselves that have to be bought and replaced often.

CatGenie is an investment upfront, but for so many customers, it ends up saving families money in the long run and paying for itself! Because the Granules are Washable and Reusable, they never fully need changing! You just top them off a bit as some gets kicked out by kitty. That means you might only need a box or two a year on average to keep your CatGenie running. The CatGenie will also need a SaniSolution Cartridge to run. These SaniSolution Cartridges have 120 washes each and actual double to 240 washes on Cat Activation mode! Leaving you to only need a few cartridges a year for a one-cat household.

It’s time to give your cat better care, make your home cleaner and healthier and help save the environment. Ditch the old cat litter for good and make the switch to CatGenie today.

    I received my cat genie in the mail 2 days ago and have been waiting rather impatiently lol for my husband’s weekend so we can get it set up. I’m so very excited, we have 6 cats but are only using this for our Sphynx and bambino. If it works well for them we will purchase another one and put it in the main part of the house for the rest of the kitties to use. I myself have no doubt and am sure in a week or so we will be ordering another one because it’s my husband’s job to take care of the litter for those kitties and when he sees I’m not doing it anymore, yea he’s going to join me on the cat genie side…will update in a week, wish us luck on setting it up…🤞
