Kitty Love: An Homage to Cats premiered on June 5 on Netflix. Directed by Mark Verkerk, the documentary-style movie stars Nicolette Kluijver and famed Dutch-cat Abatutu, who has starred in other Dutch films including Help! I’ve Shrunk the Family (2014) and Jackie & Oopjen (2020). Needless to say, as far as cats go, Abatutu is no stranger to the screen.
Critics agree! Jade Budowski writes for Decider, “I mean, Abatutu is a star for a reason. That cat has chill vibes, a lovably chubby figure, and a very expressive face. No wonder he’s such a celebrity.”
According to Netflix’s summary of the movie, “Famous feline Abatutu presents this charming celebration of cats, showcasing their finest and friskiest moments with a collection of home videos.” The film features Abatutu playing with other cats, kids, objects and doing what cats do best – entertaining humans with their silly shenanigans. At around an hour runtime, this feisty and fun film is the purrfect oppawtunity to kick-back, relax and relish in the simple joy of what makes cats, cats.
