Netflix & Chill: Shows For And About Cats

Netflix & Chill: Shows For And About Cats

Have you been a self-made victim of bringing all of your favorite shows in one sitting? Maybe while eating an entire tube of cookie dough (no judgments)? Are you anxiously waiting to see which one of your favorite characters freaking DIES in the next season of Game of Thrones? There is a way to fill the void; an answer to all of your problems. And, like many of life’s greatest questions, that answer is cats. I know. Shocking, right?

So let’s start with the obvious here. As the cold spring rains start flooding in, it can be hard to muster up the energy to do… like, pretty much anything. All aboard the seasonal depression train, toot toot! Well, the quickest and easiest way to make the days bearable is to – what else? Bombard your oculars with some real. Nice. Kitties.

Cat Documentaries

Looking for something a little more intellectually stimulating? A National Geographic documentary entitled Science of Cats will be sure to entertain and inform. Science of Cats takes a complete look at cats as a species, where they came from, and how they developed a companionship with humans over the centuries.

Similarly, a PBS special entitled The Story of Cats takes you on a journey through what it means to be a cat. “Cats are among the most feared and revered creatures on the planet,” the synopsis reads. “Their power, strength, and enigmatic nature have fascinated us for centuries. They are one of the most studied mammals in the world yet only now is their real identity being understood. Take an in-depth look at what makes the family of felines unique and the evolutionary tricks and adaptions that truly make a cat, a cat.” Sign me UP.

All About Cats

One of the more popular cat-themed shows that are out and about right now is the Animal Planet series Must Love Cats. If there’s something out there in the world that has something to do with cats, this show pretty much covers it. From sensational cat-related stories to explorations through the fanciest, shmanciest cat hotels, this show has it all.

You may also probably know about Jackson Galaxy’s series My Cat From Hell (an oxymoron, all cats are angels, we know this to be true). My Cat From Hell follows the stories of cat owners who are unable to figure out just what the heck is going on with their cat. But this show proves one very important point again and again; no cat is beyond saving! Whether they’re overly aggressive, shy, or have any other behavioral issues, every cat deserves a chance, and that chance is always worth fighting for.

Looking for something that’ll really spark your fancy for living that #catmomlyfe? Oh honey, have I got just the thing for you. Catwalk: Tales From The Cat Show Circuit follows the journey of cat moms Kim and Shirely and, of course, their cats who are locked in a heated competition to be crowned Canada’s top cat. Kim’s baby, Bobby, is a lively  and outgoing Turkish Angora who’s been stealing the show for quite some time. Shirley’s baby is a little puff ball of a red Persian who’s gaining fast on Bobby, and her name is – wait for it – Oh La La. Are you obsessed yet?

Cats In Story Arcs

Looking for a show that’s maybe not necessarily about cats, per se, but like, features a cat? We’ve got those, too. The Amazon Original Series, Red Oaks is a story about a young college student named David who spends his summer break working at a country club. In the show, David’s dad, Sam, ends up adopting a cat, and the two maintain a special bond throughout the series. Precious.

Wanna dip into some nostalgia? Don’t forget everyone’s favorite sassy boy, Salem, from Sabrina The Teenage Witch. In the series, Salem Saberhagen is a wizard who has been cursed to live as a cat. His crime? Trying to take over the world, of course! So like a cat, am I right?

Entertainment For Your Cat

Wondering if there’s any good, wholesome entertainment for your baby and not just about him? You got it. DVDs such as While You Are Gone and Mewvie: The Motion Picture For Your Cat are excellent picks for your baby bean.

What are these DVDs about? Cat stuff, duh! Footage of squirrels, birds, and all sorts of other things your cat finds interesting. Do you feel immensely guilty every time you leave your baby alone in the house? Ah, to be able to explain that the only reason you go to work at all is so you can buy her the expensive cat food, and toys, and cat tree, and bed, and more toys. Well, huzzah! Putting these flicks on while you’re away can also reduce separation anxiety for your baby as well! Win/win!

It’s amazing how much entertainment there is in the world centered around cats. Amazing, and yet not surprising. They are fascinating, and precious, and hilarious, after all! So, ready to crack open a can of Friskies for your honey bun and curl up on the couch yet? Me too. Pass the cookie dough, por favor!
