5 Cat Podcasts You Should Be Listening To

Know what your ears are good for? No, besides hearing your lovely cat companions – scream for their breakfast.  Your ears are perfect for podcasts! Those independently made audio programs that you can download for free (or listen to online) are great for long commutes, daily workouts, or even your Sunday afternoon. And we’ve got five fantastic feline podcasts to share with you today!

CATTITUDE

cattitude

Love learning about all things cat? Cattitude is an informative podcast on our feline friends with interviews and product reviews (and even coupons in the past!). Early episodes, hosted by Tom Dock, covered various breed profiles and cat health advice while recent episodes, hosted by Michelle Fern, cover more general topics – from adopting senior cats to organic flea control – often with a featured guest. Many of the recent episodes seem to focus on particular products like cat litter, flea control products, and cat-related books. Michelle even interviewed an Emmy award-winning cinematographer to talk about a cheetah documentary! Episodes are generally between 20-30 minutes, so it’s a great option for your commute or afternoon exercise.

NINE LIVES WITH DR. KAT

1200x630bb

Nine Lives with Dr. Kat is a podcast hosted by a veterinarian: Dr. Kathryn Primm of Applebrook Animal Hospital in Tennessee. She provides a professional perspective on cat topics, educating listeners on cat dietary needs, the psychology of the human-animal bond, and everything you forget to ask your vet! She doesn’t just rely on her own education and experience either: she brings on a number of pros from both the veterinary field and outside of it – like Kate Benjamin (cat style expert) and Erika Engelhaupt (National Geographic author)! There are only 18 episodes to date, so don’t zip through them too quickly; they range in runtime from 15 to 46 minutes.

THE COMMUNITY CATS PODCAST

communit cats

Stacy LeBaron has been working to improve animal welfare for decades, and with this podcast she saw a way to help even more. She’s worked directly to help communities all over the US set up programs to improve local cat welfare – addressing problems of cat overpopulation and kitties in need of rescue. Now she shares that same expertise on her podcast! If you’ve ever considered fostering cats or taking an active interest in improving animal welfare, this podcast is for you. There are over 200 episodes interviewing other pros and sharing her hardwon knowledge, covering topics as diverse as Targeted TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) to self-help and feline behavior. Most episodes of this podcast are around 30 minutes and they’re incredibly informative – this is one you’ll want to focus on.

PURRCAST

Cuddling a purring kitty is one of the most relaxing things ever. Close your eyes and imagine your cat purring right now – I bet just thinking of that peculiarly feline activity has made you feel soothed. (You’re nodding along with me, aren’t you?) Well, Purrcast started when Amy and Justin (the folks behind the microphone) heard a cat purring on a YouTube video and realized it’d be fantastic if someone made a podcast of cats purring. So they did! Each episode, they feature a different cat (most often a rescued and/or fostered kitty) purring with a short accompanying bio.

Next time you need a mental break from a tough day, queue up the Purrcast and let it take the edge off.

MEOWSTER PODCAST

Meowster is the last podcast we’re mentioning today – and the hosts pride themselves on embracing the hilarious cat topics in contemporary pop culture! Hosts Rebecca Zisch (a cat behaviorist and veterinary nurse) and Tim Black (a cat-loving voice actor) update the podcast twice a month (on the 1st and the 15th). They review (bad) cat movies, dish about cat celebrities, cover the Kitten Bowl,  talk about that cat brush shaped like a tongue that you use with your mouth, and so much more. There are over 100 episodes for you to catch up on – and they vary in length from as little as 30 minutes to over an hour! This is for you serious podcast fans, and worth your feline-loving attention.

We hope you’ve found a new favorite to listen to today, or that we’ve tempted you to try podcasts for the first time. Or did we miss your favorite cat podcast? Drop into the comments below and tell us what you love to listen to!

  1. Thanks for creating this list! I would like to recommend 2 new podcasts that came out in 2021 and 2022.

    1. SAMETEAM is a brand new podcast hosted by Sterling “Trap King” Davis (Rapper turned cat rescuer. He’s part of the team behind Tabby, the dating app for cat owners) and Shannon Jackson (Mom to famous cat Smush). They sit down weekly to discuss issues in cat rescue. Here’s the link: https://anchor.fm/sameteampod

    2. Community Cat News. (My show) This is a scripted sitcom about cats who run their own news show. They only cover local news that cats care about.

For example: the human shut the door to the bathroom, creating a major road closure. The possums and the squirrels are fighting over trashcan rights. Every episode is sponsored by a Feline Rights Attorney who is ready to sue your human for even the slightest inconvenience.
